When shipping firearms to Alligator Arms FL, it is essential to follow all federal regulations and the policies of your chosen shipping carrier. The following guide outlines the necessary steps to ensure your firearm is shipped safely and legally.


How to Ship a Firearm to Alligator Arms FL

Federal law requires that all modern firearms be shipped to a valid Federal Firearms License (FFL) holder.
Alligator Arms FL holds a Type 07 FFL / Class II SOT, so firearms can be shipped directly to us.

Relevant ATF Regulations

According to the ATF Federal Firearms Regulations Reference Guide (ATF P 5300.4):

(B9) Can a non-licensee ship a firearm via a carrier?
Yes. A non-licensee can ship a firearm to a resident of their own state or to an FFL holder in any state. Handguns must be shipped using a common or contract carrier, and the carrier must be informed that the shipment contains a firearm. However, no labeling may indicate that the package contains a firearm.

(B8) Can a non-licensee use the U.S. Postal Service?

    • Shotguns and rifles: May be mailed to a resident of the same state or to a licensed FFL in any state.
    • HandgunsCannot be mailed by non-licensees; a commercial carrier must be used.
      The Postal Service recommends using registered mail and not marking the package to indicate its contents.

If You Are Not an FFL Holder

If you do not have a Federal Firearms License, you are considered an unlicensed person and must ship any modern firearm only to a licensed dealer.

Before shipping, Alligator Arms FL will provide you with a copy of our signed FFL. You must ship the firearm to the exact address listed on the license. Bring this FFL copy with you when dropping off the package in case the shipping provider requests it.


Choosing a Carrier

Each shipping carrier has its own rules regarding firearm shipments. You are responsible for verifying the latest guidelines from your chosen provider.

UPS

    • Handguns must be shipped Next Day Air.
    • Rifles and shotguns can be shipped via Ground service.
    • Ammunition is accepted but must be labeled appropriately.
    • Note: Alligator Arms FL cannot create UPS labels. The customer must generate them directly.

USPS – Unlicensed Persons

    • Can ship: Rifles and shotguns.
    • Cannot ship: Handguns or concealable firearms (e.g., short-barreled rifles).
    • Ammunition: Not allowed through USPS.
    • USPS may inspect packages, and no labels should reveal the contents.

USPS – Licensed Persons

    • FFL holders may ship handguns, rifles, and shotguns through USPS.
    • Form PS 1508 is required for licensed shippers mailing handguns.
    • USPS is often the most cost-effective option for handguns.

FedEx – Licensed Persons

    • Licensed FFLs may ship firearms. Contact FedEx for policies and arrangements.

FedEx – Unlicensed Persons

    • FedEx does not allow firearm shipments from non-licensed individuals.
